That’s why, in 2013, we launched the University of New England College of Dental Medicine — the only dental school in Northern New England. About the program: For nearly 150 years, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine has been a paragon of academic and clinical excellence. Our mission, education committed to clinical excellence, is embodied in each of our academic programs. In our four-year Doctor of Dental Medicine program, students receive a comprehensive education that emphasizes the importance of didactic coursework, pre-clinical training, clinical experience, and practice management that prepares them to enter the work force as confident, proficient clinicians.

The Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene is the longest continually running dental hygiene program in the country. Considered to be the most comprehensive oral hygiene education and services clinic in New England, our clinic gives students immersive instruction to deliver high quality oral healthcare services to the public.
About the program: The Allied Dental Education Program’s Dental Hygiene Degree program is the only Dental Hygiene program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association in the State of New Hampshire. The Dental Hygiene program provides an extensive educational background for students seeking careers as Dental Hygienists.
The program places a major emphasis on clinical work experience in the NHTI campus clinic as well as a variety of outside agencies and clinics. The clinical work is combined with classroom study in Dental Sciences, Biological Science, Nutrition, English and Social Sciences. Graduates are able to find employment as Registered Dental Hygienists or to continue their education at the baccalaureate level.
About the program: Learn while you earn with the only collegiate Dental Hygiene program in Vermont. Our unique approach to learning will have you developing your clinical skills on real patients in your first year. We will provide you with the clinical skills and knowledge required to earn a dental hygiene license and enter clinical practice.
The dental hygiene profession is primarily educational and preventative in nature and offers opportunities to work in a variety of healthcare settings. Jobs for dental hygienists are growing much faster than the national average.
The first three years of coursework are completed in our Dental Hygiene Clinic located on the Williston campus and students rotate to local schools and other organizations using our Molar Mobile van with mobile dental equipment. After the first three years, students earn an Associate of Science degree. The final year of the program is completed online. After successful completion of the fourth year, students earn a Bachelor of Science degree.
About the program: UMA offers the only accredited Dental Hygiene program at a public institution in Maine with tuition nearly 75% less than an in-state private school. UMA offers a three year Associate in Science in Dental Hygiene degree with the option to complete one additional year to earn a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. Class size is limited to 20 therefore students receive careful monitoring of progress in a supportive atmosphere.

About the program: The Dental Hygiene associate in science degree program is designed to prepare competent dental hygiene professionals, capable of providing quality dental hygiene care in a variety of settings within a changing health care system, and a culturally diverse society. Students gain skills and knowledge required to take the National Dental Hygiene Board and Commission on Dental Competency Assessment, and learn to practice in a manner consistent with the highest standards set forth by the ADA/CODA, ADHA, OSHA, CDC and Massachusetts General Laws pertinent to health care provider settings, including the State Dental Practice Act. Service-learning is infused throughout the Dental Hygiene coursework including the clinical courses.
